I was here last week the place is now managed by new people. I thought the fpod was really good, well seasoned and tasty, cooked right on, not over cooker nor under. Most of the dishes available are fried chicken/fish, oyster etc. I personally think they should serve it with a salad or something to help balance nutrition per serving it would also balace dryness. Now regarding service, the new management guys are very nice and polite seem like really good people but they were clearly struggling to undrstand our order. They guy kept saying ok, ok or nodding made me think he was following along until I got my order and it was all wrong, i tried explaning them but they did not understand, they were able to take a new order though. I ended up over paying I think if they hire someone that can understand they will be able to be more efficient and accurate.
I was impressed with the food and atmosphere. The new owners are very friendly. They are adding new items to the menu from their country. I love the new items on the menu!
I loved Angie's but it has gone down hill, they cut the chicken in half now, the fries are not good at all, last time we ordered from doordash we didnt get our sides,
The first Afghani restaurant in Tulsa with delicious food and very kind people.
Qabily Palaw that they told me to try and I fall in love with it.
Do not dine in. Sticky floors and muggy atmosphere. No working soda fountain. Tea or water available only.
Kids meal 7.99 entree + side (no drink). None of their numbered combos included drinks. I find it bit unusual but not extremely odd, especially when you don't have a working soda machine but I feel like lower prices would compensate or even some sort of special... Sadly their food was not delicious, although portions were very large so anyone could easily share, but I feel like they could cut their prices in half and portions as well to focus more on individual needs when dining inside, if they want dine-in customers. Their sides such as mac and cheese, fries and okra - not great but they were okay.
☹️
I've been to Angie's a few times both locations that I know of period I'm at the one on Sheridan.. The fish doesn't disappoint it was hot in fresh from what I could tell, the fries were just fries. The green beans had no flavor at all little disappointed that. None of the many signs were on and the place looks really really dirty and disgusting if you just like around. The food is OK if you want fish and I see some of the other food around me looks really good it's just the place that's dirty inside
Go for the Afghan cuisine. New ownership by recent refugees, don't be thrown off by the signage that hasn't been updated. I had the Kabuli, I enjoyed it but I think they Americanized it by adding too much sugar to the carrots. The lamb was good, didn't detect any lanolin flavor. It may seem pricey at $20, but it comes with lots of unexpected sides (beans, veggie platter, large bread slices, and Firni dessert), the menu doesn't mention this. The menu needs additional English descriptions as well for people that are unfamiliar with Afghan food. Be patient with the staff speaking English as well, or have Farsi up on Google translate.
I love trying these hole in the wall locations as great food can be found at reasonable prices. Angie's does not disappoint. The restaurant features southern style fried seafood (a little stretch here because I think they have fresh water catfish which technically doesn't come from the sea). I gave the the wings a pass today. The dining area remains closed as it has been throughout the ordeal of Covid. Orders are placed in the drive thru and are brought out to your vehicle.
Having not eaten here before I ordered a combination platter of catfish, shrimp and fried oysters with sides of green beans and red beans and rice. The thing about seafood is it has to be fresh, no amount of seasoning and batter can make bad seafood taste good. With that in mind the seafood today was fresh.
The shrimp was coated with a thick crunchy batter was quite tasty and well complemented with the provided cocktail sauce.
The oysters and catfish received a cornmeal coating, different from the treatment on the shrimp.
The oysters were delicious. Well breaded and perfectly fried with a light crunch on the outside and tender goodness on the inside with no hint of a rubbery texture associated with over cooking. They would be at home by themselves or in a Louisiana po boy sandwich.
The catfish was the star of today's meal. Nicely breaded, biting through to the fish inside was a delight. The natural sweetness of the fresh catfish was like a shining beacon in the darkness. If I had ever wondered what bursting with flavor meant, this would be it. 5 stars for the catfish, easily some of the best fried catfish I have ever had.
Red beans and rice. This side item was one of the options offered with the meal. It was good and I would not hesitate to order it again next time.
Green beans. This in my opinion was the weakest part of todays meal. It was not bad, but also not good either. It was rather pedestrian with no embellishments in it like bacon or onions or garlic. I would order a different side item next time.
Overall, eating food from Angie's was very pleasant. Enough care and attention had been shown to preparing the food that it paid dividends in taste. I would recommend this place and put it up against any other restaurant serving fried catfish in Tulsa.
